About Me

Hi my name is Makayla Reese, I'm a senior in printmaking at the Maine College of Art. I make mixed media pieces revolving around print and painting. The work I create is mostly 2D work either on paper or wood panels. Though I also involve some sculptural pieces that I make out of low cost or free material. My current work focuses on black history and my personal experience with racial issues, identity, and black empowerment. I also express the powerful emotion that comes with this heavy topic. The biggest topics in my recent work are based on the Black Panther Party and Black Lives Matter as it holds a huge part of change in black history. 

  I speak my thoughts and views through my work. I hope that my work can help educate viewers as a part of my work is heavily based around black history. It's important as an artist to be involved in everything you can. It is very important that you feel strong enough to speak your mind. Don't worry about the viewers.The right people will always find your art.
