Black Panther Series

10” x 11”

Screen Print and Acrylic

Before Black Lives Matter almost 60 years ago we had the Black Panther Party (BPP). The BPP also formed because of police brutality. Growing up people used to describe the BPP as a hate group making most people believe they were bad people. It wasn't until 2018 that I learned that this was not the case. Every movement comes with violence but the BPP was a movement to protect black people. As a mixed woman it bothered me that as a young child people made me believe that these people were bad. I found a written testimony from Bobby Seale (One of the leaders of BPP) during the Chicago Eight trial online. I decided it was time to make something with my work revolving around BPP. I took these images of leaders and members and showed positivity. In making these pieces I reflect on their aura as a person in hope that you can see the true light and personality of these important people.
